Do You Know What's Happening in Tech?
Hi there👋! Do you know the latest news in the tech industry? You should.
To be at the forefront of innovation, you need to know what’s happening: how people are using available tools, what new tools are being created, and if there are gaps opening up in the market that you can take advantage of.
We think it’s so important that we have decided to pivot our newsletter and bring these global changes to you in an easily digestible format with a practical look at the implications.
Let’s look at what’s happening this week.
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, experienced an almost 6% drop in shares after they announced their Q4 revenue! Although their revenue is still exceptional, their missed goals could be an indication of future trends if things don’t change.
A big contributor to this missed revenue is likely the drop in search engine usage, which dipped below 90% for the first time in years.😲 Many other search engines have picked up some of the lost users, while AI-driven tools have also grown!
If you advertise on Google or rely on the ad revenue it provides, you need to keep an eye on the shifting markets and consider expanding your focus to ad programs and optimization for other platforms, too!
We’d also recommend that you consider AI optimization and perhaps integrating an AI specialist into your team proactively!
With the recent TikTok ban, talks about security concerns are more prevalent than ever! More recently, Australia has banned DeepSeek, OpenAI’s new Chinese competitor, from all government systems.
Their biggest reasons for this have been worries over surveillance and data collection.🕵️
Security and data handling regulations have become more stringent in recent years, so we shouldn’t be surprised.
If you’re delving into the world of AI application development, keep these potential use restrictions in mind.
Similarly, if you use AI-powered tools, consider how they deal with sensitive data and prepare for worst-case scenarios where they’ll be banned in your region with little notice!🚨
The days of battle droids and AI-driven weapons systems were never going to happen! At least, that’s what Google’s initial stance was. But, a recent report suggests that they have supposedly changed their minds.
Google could potentially be permitting AI in surveillance and weapon systems. Is this the future of war?
We’ll probably see many ethical discussions on this going forward, but until the regulations are created, this could represent an opening in the market for those in defense and security.
What about if you have no intentions of getting involved?
It’s probably still a good idea to take a closer look at your platform’s AI policies and make some proactive adjustments.🤖
Politics and tech: two different sectors? They aren’t mutually exclusive anymore!
18F, a group that purchased and developed technology for departments of the US government and has been linked to Elizabeth Warren’s tax website, has supposedly been ‘deleted’ and their office ‘taken over by allies’ according to Elon Musk.
Tech has always played a role in building the infrastructure used by politics but has been removed from general associations. Now, the two seem to be increasingly intertwined.
📢If you deal with public-sector tech in any way, transparency is key to protecting your business and employees!
And if you work with government tech solutions firsthand, you might need to get ready for some potential policy shifts that may lead to opportunities or competition.
That’s it for this edition of the Trio Insight! Between new AI developments and ethical concerns, the start of the year has been a busy one for the tech industry.
